How to See Who Someone Recently Followed on Instagram
Instagram never shows a date next to a follow. There is no "recently followed" tab, no activity feed for other people, and no notification when an account you care about starts following someone new. That is exactly why this question is searched thousands of times a month.
The good news: the information is still there — you just have to read it the right way.
The trick: the following list is ordered, not alphabetical
When you open any public profile's Following list, Instagram does not sort it A→Z. The newest follows are returned first. So the very top of that list is, in practice, the account's most recent follows.
That is useful, but manual checking has two big problems:
- You have to be logged in with your own account (and repeatedly visiting a profile leaves a trail).
- You have to remember what the list looked like yesterday to notice what changed today.
The reliable method: track the list over time
Instead of eyeballing it, you take a snapshot of the following list and compare snapshots. Anything that appears at the top and was not in the previous snapshot is a genuine new follow.

Why counting matters (and how we avoid false positives)
Instagram's ranked list shifts around on its own — an account can move up or down without anything actually changing. A naive tool reports those shifts as "new follows" and you get useless alerts.
We cross-check every detection against the profile's following count. A new account is only flagged as new when the count actually grew. If the number did not move, nothing was followed, and you stay quiet.

What you can and cannot see
You can see: new follows on public accounts, the order of the following list, follower and following counts, verified status, and profile pictures.
You cannot see: anything on a private account, or an exact timestamp of the follow. Instagram simply does not publish either one. Any tool promising exact times is guessing.
