Downloading Instagram reels without an app

Reels are Instagram’s short-form videos, and they are where most of the platform’s reach now comes from. Instagram lets you save a reel to a private collection inside the app, but that does not give you an actual video file, and the reel disappears from your collection if the owner deletes it. Some accounts allow downloads from the share menu, but many do not, and those downloads are watermarked.

InstaSPY’s reels downloader gives you the video file itself. Enter a public account’s username, open the Reels tab and you will see its recent reels with their captions. Each reel can be played in the browser and downloaded as an MP4 with its sound, so you can watch it offline, review it frame by frame or keep it for reference.

Everything runs in your browser on phone or desktop. You do not log in to Instagram and you do not have to install a downloader app that asks for your password. Downloads are included in InstaSPY’s paid plans. As with any media you did not create, reels belong to their creators; downloading for reference is common, but re-uploading someone else’s reel as your own can break Instagram’s rules and copyright law.

How to download an Instagram reel

  1. 1

    Search the account

Type the username of the public account that posted the reel, or paste its profile link, in the search box above.

  2. 2

    Open the Reels tab

Recent reels from the account are listed with thumbnails and captions. Tap one to play it in the browser with sound.

  3. 3

    Download the MP4

Use the download button on the reel. The video is saved as an MP4 file with its audio track.

  4. 4

    Watch or use offline

Open the file from your Downloads folder, Files app or camera roll. It plays in any standard video player.

What you can and can’t download

The reels downloader works with reels that are publicly visible on an account’s profile.

What you can see

  • Recent reels from public accounts
  • The video with its original audio, where Instagram provides it
  • Captions shown alongside each reel
  • Other public content from the same profile: stories, highlights and posts

What you can't see

  • Reels from private accounts
  • Reels the creator deleted or archived
  • Audio Instagram removed for copyright reasons
  • Comments, likes lists or who shared the reel

If a reel does not appear, check that the account is still public and that the reel is still on the profile.

Why people download Instagram reels

Competitor research

Save competitors’ best-performing reels to analyse their hooks, editing pace, captions and calls to action, and compare them side by side with your own.

Influencer and partnership research

Download a creator’s recent reels to share with your team or client when evaluating a partnership, without everyone needing an Instagram account.

Brand monitoring

Keep copies of reels that feature your product, review it or misuse your brand, so you have a stable record even if the reel is later deleted.

Creators studying their niche

Study trending formats in your niche frame by frame in a video editor, to understand transitions, text timing and structure.

Journalism and research

Archive public video statements and on-the-ground footage posted as reels, alongside the account and caption information.

Personal privacy while browsing

Save a tutorial, recipe or workout reel to watch offline later, without logging in to Instagram or linking it to your account.
