How Instagram new follow alerts work

Instagram notifies you when someone follows you, but not when an account you are interested in follows someone else. Follow alerts add that missing notification for public accounts.

After you add a profile and switch alerts on, the tracker scans it on a schedule. Each scan is compared with the previous one. When a new account appears on the following list, an alert is created with the followed account's name and profile picture.

In-app alerts appear in the notification bell of your InstaSPY account. Email alerts are optional and can be turned on per profile, so you can choose email only for the accounts where speed matters.

Setting up new follow alerts

Setting up alerts takes less than a minute.

• Search the username – enter the public account in the box above.
• Review the first scan – check it is the right account and that it is public.
• Turn on alerts – choose in-app alerts and optionally email.
• Adjust any time – switch alerts off per profile without losing history.

Alerts are part of paid plans. Each tracked profile keeps its full history, so even if you pause alerts, you can still see what changed.

When follow alerts are most useful

Alerts matter when timing matters. Brands use them to know quickly when a competitor follows a new creator or partner. Agencies use them to keep up with a niche. Fans use them to catch the moment an artist follows a collaborator, which often comes before a public announcement.

Alerts also reduce noise. Instead of checking several profiles every day, you only hear about them when something changes.

Because scans run on a schedule, an alert arrives some time after the follow, not at the exact moment. A follow that is made and removed between two scans may not trigger an alert at all.
