Instagram Follow Tracker
Instagram Follow Tracker
Instagram hides the order of a following list, so a new follow gets buried in the middle. We catch it and alert you, even if the account is private.
Other apps show a list once. InstaSPY keeps watching for you, 24/7, and they are never notified.

On Instagram, new follows are hidden. With us, they are on top.
Instagram mixes a following list in random order, so you can never tell who was just added. InstaSPY sorts it by time, marks every new follow, and sends you an alert the moment it happens.
- ✓ Newest follows always first
- ✓ "NEW" badge on every follow since your last look
- ✓ Private accounts tracked by following count

Quick answer
The InstaSPY Instagram follow tracker monitors an account and alerts you when it follows someone new. For public accounts you see which accounts were newly followed; for private accounts you get an alert when the following count goes up, without names. Tracking starts when you add the account, so earlier follows are not shown.

How follow tracking actually works
Instagram does not have a feature that shows who someone followed recently, and it removed the old Following activity tab years ago. The following list on a profile is not sorted by date in any reliable way, so you cannot just open it and see what changed. The only accurate way to see new follows is to record the list at one moment and compare it with the list later. That is what the follow tracker does.
When you add an account, InstaSPY saves a snapshot of what is publicly available about it. For a public account that includes the accounts it follows; for a private account it is the following count only, because Instagram does not show a private account’s following list to non-followers. InstaSPY then checks the account again on a schedule. Each time the list or count changes, the difference is recorded and you get an alert in the app, and by email if you turn that on.
Because tracking works by comparison, it can only report what happened after you started. It cannot reconstruct follows from last week or last year, and no tool honestly can. It also reports net changes between checks: if an account follows someone and unfollows them again before the next check, that may not appear. Within those limits, it is the most direct way to know when an account starts following someone new.
How to track who someone follows on Instagram
- 1
Enter the username
Type the Instagram username you want to monitor in the box at the top of this page. Public and private accounts can both be tracked.
- 2
InstaSPY takes the first snapshot
The tracker records the account’s current following count and, for public accounts, the list of accounts it follows. This is the starting point for every later comparison.
- 3
Automatic re-checks
The account is checked again on a regular schedule. You don’t need to keep the page open or come back to run it manually.
- 4
Get alerts for new follows
When a public account follows someone new, the new accounts appear in your report with an alert. For a private account you are alerted when the following count increases.
What you can and can’t see
The follow tracker works on both public and private accounts, but what it can report depends on what Instagram makes visible.
What the tracker shows
- Public accounts: the specific accounts that were newly followed since tracking started
- Private accounts: an alert whenever the following count goes up
- When each change was detected
- In-app alerts, plus optional email alerts
What the tracker can’t show
- Follows that happened before you started tracking; there is no history before that
- The names of accounts a private profile follows
- Follow-then-unfollow changes that happen entirely between two checks
- Likes, comments, direct messages or story views
Tracking a private account tells you that something changed, not who. For names, the account has to be public, or you need to be an approved follower inside Instagram.
Who uses an Instagram follow tracker
Competitor research
When a competitor’s brand account starts following new suppliers, agencies, creators or retailers, it often signals a new campaign or partnership before anything is announced.
Influencer and partnership research
Track creators you are considering working with to see which brands and other creators they connect with, and whether they have just started following your competitors.
Brand monitoring
Monitor key accounts in your industry, such as distributors, ambassadors or partners, and get alerted when they follow new brands in your category.
Creators studying their niche
Follow what leading creators in your niche follow. New follows often point to emerging accounts, tools and trends before they become widely known.
Journalism and research
Public figures and organisations sometimes signal new relationships through who they follow. Tracking public accounts gives a dated record of those changes.
Personal privacy while browsing
Keep up with public accounts you are interested in without following them, checking their profile every day or using your own Instagram account.
Follow tracker vs. Instagram app vs. password-based apps
How the three ways of keeping an eye on someone’s follows compare.
| Feature | InstaSPY | Inside the Instagram app | Apps that ask for your Instagram password |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shows newly followed accounts | Yes, for public accounts | No, list is not sorted by date | Often claimed, inconsistent |
| Alerts when the account follows someone | Yes, in-app and email | No | Varies |
| Works on private accounts | Following-count alerts only | Only if they accepted your follow | Usually claimed, rarely real |
| Instagram account needed | No | Yes, you must be logged in | Yes, you hand over your login |
| Shares your Instagram password | Never | No | Yes, with a third party |
| Risk to your own Instagram account | None, your account is not used | None | High: lockouts, suspicious-login checks and possible bans |
| Works on phone and desktop browser | Yes | App plus limited web | Usually app-only |
Apps promising full follow history, or private accounts’ follow lists, cannot deliver it. Instagram does not publish that data, and apps that ask for your password are using your account to try.
Instagram follow tracker FAQ
Can I see who someone recently followed on Instagram?
Instagram itself doesn’t show this. With the InstaSPY follow tracker you see the accounts a public profile newly follows from the moment you start tracking.
Does the follow tracker work on private accounts?
Yes, partly. For a private account you get an alert when its following count goes up, but not the names of the accounts.
Can I see someone’s follows from before I started tracking?
No. New follows are detected from the moment tracking starts; there is no history before that.
Will the person know I am tracking them?
No. InstaSPY doesn’t use your Instagram account and doesn’t follow the profile, so nothing is visible to them.
How often does InstaSPY check for new follows?
Tracked accounts are re-checked automatically on a regular schedule. You don’t need to keep the page open.
Why is the order of someone’s following list not by date?
Instagram doesn’t sort following lists strictly by date, which is why comparing snapshots over time is the only reliable method.
Can I get email alerts for new follows?
Yes. Alerts appear in the app, and you can turn on email alerts for each tracked account.
Can I track unfollows too?
This tool focuses on new follows. To see who stopped following an account, use the Instagram unfollowers tracker.
